With the text message (SMS) inextricably woven into the fabric of everyday life, this medium presents marketing opportunities to brands who are already using email to promote their products and services.
This cheap method of advertising certainly pays off for those brands who use it. But for most people, for most of the time, these promotional text messages are an annoyance.
Sometimes an acquaintance can become a nuisance. Bullying, stalking – even an over-zealous desire to be your friend – can become, at best, an irritation.
The iPhone’s built-in Block feature allows you to block calls, FaceTime, SMSs, and iMessages that come from unwanted senders.
Block a spammer
When you get a message from someone you don’t want to hear from again, the number can be blocked.
- Go to Messages and tap on the message from the spammer.
- Select Details from the top right-hand corner.
- Tap on the i icon.
- Tap on Block this Caller at the bottom of the page.
Block a number from your Contacts
You can always block a contact’s number by following the steps above. However, if there’s a chance that you might, at some point, want to unblock the number, then it’s best to block it from Contacts. A blocked contact will remain on your Contacts list, but you won’t receive messages, phone calls, or FaceTime from anyone on your block list.
- Go to your Contacts menu.
- Tap on the contact you want to block.
- Tap Block this Caller.
- A confirmation popup will appear. Select Block Contact.
